The Gränsfors American Felling Axe is a professional axe for those who want to work in the forest in the traditional way. The axe is ideal for felling very large trees, thanks to its long, broad edge of 11.5 cm. The axe is forged to a curved bit, making it suitable for cutting into fresh, resinous wood such as spruce or pine. The heavy head and long handle also give considerable power to the cut. The axe is almost twice as heavy as the Scandinavian Forest Axe.
Each Gransfors Axe head is hand-forged from high quality Swedish steel that is honed, tempered & annealed to the perfect hardness by the experienced Gränfors Bruk Swedish Smiths who stamp their initials on the head. I've been swinging an axe for camp chores and landscaping since I was a Boy Scout. I've held and used a fair number of axes in that time, from cheap flea market finds that I rehandled myself, and store bought Collin's type patterned heads that are common here in the USA. The axes from Gransfors' factory are the best I've used. Everything you've heard about them is true. The handles are fitted perfectly, they are razor sharp out of the box. The swing and cut are so remarkable, that I'll keep going back to Gransfors for any future axes. Yes, they are expensive, but with Gransfors, the old adage of "you get what you pay for" still rings true. 10/10, must buy.
Straight handle, well hafted, super-sharp edge -- I can't say enough about this thing. The handle thickness is actually not too bad, although I may wind-up slimming it just a tad before I use it heavily. I'm becoming a big fan of North River Outdoors, great products, awesome service!
The craftsmanship was well maintained throughout the tool. Edge of ax came shaving sharp. Well balanced tool with a bit of heft to it.
I was definitely NOT disappointed when I saw first hand the quality of the axe I ordered. It was a gift for my son-in-law, who was equally impressed - so much so that he was tempted to hang it on the wall as a display! Instead, he went right out and chopped down a dead tree with it, came in and said he wanted to order others.
This was my fourth GB axe from North River Outdoors although the first one online. All of them just beg to be used, and used they get. I have had many axes over the years but these just feel right and work amazing. Communication with North River Outdoors was very prompt and shipping was super fast and very well packaged. Absolute pleasure doing business with them! Excellent products and excellent customer service!!!

What are your shipping policies and how fast will my order arrive?
North River Outdoors offers free shipping for purchases of $99 and over within the United States (some oversized items may incur charges). We strive to ship in-stock orders within 24-48 hours, often the same day if placed before 5 PM Eastern Time. Standard free shipping typically arrives via UPS or USPS within 3-6 business days. We currently ship to the USA at this time. You can track your order status by logging into "My Account" on our website.
What is your return and exchange policy?
We offer a 60-day return policy for unopened and unused items, for a 100% refund. Items must be returned in the same (or similar) condition in which they were received. Opened, used, or damaged products, or those not following our return policy, may be subject to a 15% restocking fee. We reserve the right to refuse returns in non-sellable condition. Customers are responsible for return shipping costs.

Do you offer any services like knife sharpening or gear repair?
Yes! We offer a range of services at our Virginia store, including knife sharpening, axe sharpening and rehandling, knife/axe cleaning and conditioning, and waxed canvas bag/pack waxing and conditioning. We also provide laser engraving. Drop-off for services is available Monday-Saturday, with a typical turnaround of 1-2 business days.
