ZT RJ Martin 0609 Flipper Knife CPM-20CV

The new Zero Tolerance 0609 is a smaller, even more carry-ready version of the original Factory Custom 0606CF from ZT, RJ Martin, and Matt Martin. Like the original, it offers a clean, streamlined look yet also has highly detailed handle machining that adds both grip and visual impact. For even more visual “wow,” the 3D-machined handle is built of light-yet-strong titanium that ZT has anodized in an attractive bronze.

The 3.4-inch blade is CPM 20CV, which provides enhanced toughness and resistance to edge chipping. It also delivers superior hardness, corrosion resistance, and excellent edge retention. The drop-point blade has a two-tone finish: machined satin on the grinds with a stonewashed finish on the flats. The new 0609 opens manually with ZT’s KVT ball-bearing opening system and the handy flipper so it’s always ready when you want it.

Last—but certainly not least—you’ll notice the oversized See-Through Pivot (STP). Designed by RJ Martin, this unique pivot is hollow in the center, letting you “see through” it. The See-Through Pivot adds another intriguing touch to this already-attractive knife.

Elegant and flawless EDC

This knife is an elegant J. Martin designed ZT model. As with my other ZT knife (0220) the mechanism is flawless and smooth, and feels solid and durable. At first releasing the frame lock tended to annoyingly "pinch" my thumb, unlike the 0220, which was very smooth out of the box, and I even considered removing one star because of this, However I quickly learned how to avoid this, and I felt removing a star from a review of an otherwise flawless knife for this minor reason would be unfair. The knife has a fancy but dignified anodized titanium body; the blade is perfectly centered, and the edge mirror smooth and razor sharp. It's a CPM 20CV blade, by the way; many similar knife brands of equivalent or even lesser quality build would be priced higher.

Almost Perfect

This is a quality made EDC which is beautiful, but with a couple of drawbacks.

First, this knife is absolutely beautiful and light. The machining and polish are spot on! The color is understated and takes the overall knife into a classier territory. It would be a great EDC with just about any uniform, outfit or dress suit. It puts the “everyday” in everyday carry.

The drawbacks are these: cost (relative-I think under $200 is ideal), need of a proprietary tool to disassemble and for me the biggest drawback- the need for LONG break-in time for the very strong detent.

I have taken this knife apart, lubed it and adjusted the pivot and it is still far from the silky smooth action that I expected. The upside is that this detent will last a LIFETIME and eventually get to where I want it.

Buy with confidence, this one is a keeper, but a silkier action would make this a MUST BUY.

Good Looking EDC Pocket Knife

Zero Tolerance has done it again with this sweet little EDC pocket knife. Another RJ Martin collaboration except this full production and in a size that is practical for every day use. I want to carry this in my pocket because it’s not too big and it’s very good looking and not scary looking if I take it out and use it. It’s a flipper pocket knife so very easily deployed one-handed. KVT bearings make the action super smooth. The blade steel is COM-20CV which is top notch. The only down side to this knife is the proprietary pivot screw. You’ll want to purchase the special tools available from ZT in order to disassemble this knife. A small downside, but it enables the very unique see thru pivot that is a signature feature of RJ Martin knives.
