The Hults Bruk Jonaker has a great feel and thickness to its handle. This is Hults Bruk most compact hatchet that is easy to carry and is all hand forged from start to finished.

It is intended for tasks such as making kindling, doing light clearing and for any number of backcountry jobs. It is ideal for including in your pack and being worn on a belt. This item has an axe head weight of one pound and a handle length of 9.4 inches.

  • The axe head is hand-forged and made from Swedish axe steel in a foundry that has been in operation since 1697.
  • As part of the hand grinding production process, the steel is struck multiple times thereby increasing its density and resulting in more durability of the axe.
  • The head is constructed in such a way that there is a tempered zone designed to hold a very sharp edge even after many sharpening.
  • The curved hickory handle is treated with linseed oil.
  • Each axe comes with a traditional leather protective sheath that is embellished with some unique Swedish decorative elements. (Replacement sheaths are available) The axe is shipped in its own storage box and comes with a detailed users manual.

Hults Bruk Jonaker Hatchet

The hatchet is well built and ideal as a pack hatchet. Its short handle allows for a compact footprint and is ideal for camp chores. I have used it around the house and once on the trail already and found it worked great. I would recommend the hatchet to anyone looking for a small camp axe. The sheath is well made and should provide years of service.

Anyone need to axe me a question? ;D

Out of the box - beautiful. The rugged kind of beauty you'd expect. The head is hammered to finish with what looks like a ground polish down to a sharpened edge. Noted on the edge of this blade is a small Nick in the edge, something I think will disappear with is and sharpening. The wooden handle is gorgeous and built ergonomically perfectly for the tasks suited to this hatchet. The leather sheath is also superb, it smells of real leather and is built with an interesting design. It does allow you to slide a belt through to holster the sheath, though it may be unpractical and difficult to deholster.

Overall, A+ product.

Spoon carving axe

This is a beautiful little carving axe. It is very small and easy to manage while making spoons. The bevel is perfect for very refined work and stout enough for roughing. Good overall tool for wood carving. Handle is beautiful. I card scraped the warning label off. I think going forward maybe just put a tag on people can remove instead. Had to redo the oil finish on that side afterwards. A final note, at the top of the bit's edge there is a 2 milimeter defect and the bit has a slight twist. These are both minor enough to keep me from returning the axe but big enough to reduce to four stars. With this price point I'd expect those items to be the best of the axe.

Wow, this is truly a workhorse of an axe

This is an amazing axe. I have seriously underestimated the quality of the Hults Bruk Axe line. The head is every bit as good as any Gransfors or whetterlings that I have used and is better balanced with the handle. The axe is very ergonomic, meaning that it does very well for roughing out carving pieces, while not causing fatigue. I used this axe to rough out several spoons over the course of an hour or two without fatigue. The handle selection was right on and everything about this axe says that it is a workhorse and not something you buy for the name. The sheath is much higher quality over the competition.

Hults Bruk Jonaker Hatchet

Nice hatchet. What I would expect from Hults Bruk. Don't expect much swinging leverage with the small handle, but it's a great field tool that is very versatile and lighter than expected. Great price for quality. No need to buy one of those several hundred dollar ones because you saw it on TV. This one is excellent.
