We love the Helle Viking Knife from Norway! This 8-5/8" overall knife with a 4-1/4" triple laminated carbon steel blade bring you back to the Viking days where you'll use this knife in just about any Outdoor situation. This beautiful unique knife has a round design handle made of curly birch. This knife even comes with a genuine viking brown leather belt sheath. Made in Norway.

The tang of the blade is peened over a diamond shaped washer. The handle is subtly shaped for comfort and control with a variety of grips. It comes with the traditional sheath that hangs from a thong.

Maintenance
Helle knives are designed to retain their sharpness as a lifelong outdoors companion. But it is still important to take care of your knife and its sheath.

  • The Handle. Dry the handle with a soft cloth if wet and wax occasionally.
  • The Sheath. The leather needs to be impregnated occasionally with colourless impregnation agent (grease or wax) to keep supple. Dry the sheath carefully in room temperature if it becomes wet.
  • The Blade. Wipe the blade with a soft cloth if wet and treat with grease occasionally.

Sharpening
Use a diamond tool or a wet stone for sharpening. Place the knife bevel flat to the sharpening tool and work the entire blade. Work one side until you can feel a slight burr on the opposite side. Switch side and repeat the procedure until you feel the burr on the first side. You have now established an edge.

Remove the burr by stroking the blade gently over the sharpening surface on both sides, as if cutting very thin slices. Keep the bevel flat towards the sharpener and move from side to side until the burr is gone.

VIKING AGE REPLICA

The Helle Viking Knife is a reproduction of an actual Viking Age knife that was to be used on an ocean voyage on a replica Viking dragonship. It is essentially a piece of metal and a hunk of wood. It is not intended to be a "modern" knife. All of that being said the Helle knife is an excellent utility knife. It is extremely sharp. The curly birch handle is downright handsome and the leather sheath is very nicely made. For those with an interest in Viking Age tools and weapons this knife is virtually a "must have" item. For those who like nostalgic things plus like "utility" tools this will be something that you will use again and again. The lack of "modernity" is the only reason I do not give it 5 stars but then it is not intended to be a "modern" knife. It is a good quality knife with a very interesting look and feel.

Helle Viking Knife

Simple, classic knife. It comes insanely sharp and has held its edge. At first glance this knife isn't much of a looker, but it has grown on me and is my regular camp knife as long as I'm not trying to split wood. Solid quality throughout. No issues with grind alignment, fit, finish or materials. Substantial enough for regular use, yet light enough to be worn as a necker. Would certainly buy another!
