Sandpiper of California Venture Pack

Love the concept, stitching is double stitched in all the right places. Material seems very durable. However the design is flawed as a laptop backpack and concealed carry. Laptop pouch is not adjustable so a 13 macbook Pro slides all over the place and a 15 inch gaming laptop will not fit. The carry pouches not being reinforced or sewn in place make drawing from the concealed pocket clumsy. I do however love the all the other pockets.

I have been using this as my range bag for two months. I have taken it to the indoor pistol range, rifle range, and shotgun range. For my needs, it is pretty much on target. It does take some getting use to the zippers. The overhang of the zipper makes it a little challenging to zip, but I certainly see the merits if out in the rain. I suspect the material will soften with time making it easier to work the zippers.

The concealed-carry pocket did not work so well for me. I found that its takes up the same internal space as just putting the firearm in a small pistol case and putting the case in one of the bag’s compartments. I was able to fit three pistol cases and ammo no issues.

There are three main zipper compartments. The front compartment is OK for the miscellanies stuff you typically take to the range. The middle compartment can easily hold 4-6 boxes of 12ga shells (or three pistols). The third compartment is a bit narrow, but can hold pistol and rifle bullets turned on their edge.

Overall, I am very happy with this bag. For my needs, it is a good day-bag for going to the range. The brown color is a bit on the dark-tan side, but it works. If I could change two things, I would add a D-ring to each side and I would make the third compartment bigger. I bought some clips for the PALS webbing to carry things like ear muffs, etc that I would otherwise put in the third compartment if there was more room.
