Benchmade Mini Loco AXIS Lock Knife Black G-10 (3.38" Stonewash) 818

The Benchmade 818 Mini Loco provides the same refined build as its big brother, but comes sized for use as an everyday carry or backup knife. It's a robust tactical knife that utilizes the proven, dependable AXIS locking mechanism and thick skeletonized stainless steel liners. Precision milled G-10 scales provide excellent control without sacrificing comfort.

The Mini Loco 818 sports a flat ground CPM-S30V steel blade with an oval thumb hole cutout, making it easy to access and highly practical in use. Additional praise and attention to details are seen in the barrel spacer lanyard hole, a reversible deep carry clip, and stylish custom hardware on the pivot and AXIS lock.

First impression

My 818BK, blackened Mini Loco, just got delivered and I just got done looking it over.
I couldn't be happier. There are no rough or sharp areas. All areas fit together exceptionally well. The blade is as perfectly formed as anything I've seen, sits perfectly centered as far as I can see and it functions with the rest of the knife smoothly if somewhat stiffly. I am not going to try finding the pivot's sweet spot yet even though I prefer a little less stiffness. I've been working the blade and have already noticed it loosening up and I'll give that a little more time first before adjusting pivot tension.
I believe this is one heck of a knife and I hope a personal favorite for the rest of my life. Time will tell.
Two warnings I'd mention though; First, I'm 5'8" and my hands aren't the biggest. This handle is very close to being too small for me. If you are even a little bigger than me I'd strongly suggest considering the larger 808.
Second, these're stupid expensive.

Benchmade's QC was pretty good.

The deployment takes a little getting used too and the price is pretty high for what you get. Even with those cons this knife is just so awesome, I love the design and it does fit well in hand. If you like the design and have the cash, go for it!
