The Griptilian is born of custom knife maker Mel Pardue's passion for functional designs. You release the creature's ferocity with a thumb stud. At the very heart of the Griptilian, is the exclusive AXIS locking mechanism. This modern marvel gives life to a cutting tool like you have never experienced before, especially in a lightweight folder. Rock-solid ambidextrous function is sure to tame the most die-hard of traditionalists. And you can grab onto the lightweight, injection molded handle with its grip-textured surface and rib covered spine that grabs you right back for a "can't let go" grip. The Griptilian also comes with a reversible carry-clip for right or left side carry.

  • AXIS® A patented Benchmade exclusive, AXIS has been turning heads and winning fans ever since its introduction. A 100-percent ambidextrous design, AXIS gets its function from a small, hardened steel bar which rides forward and back in a slot machined into both steel liners. The bar extends to both sides of the knife, spanning the liners and positioned over the rear of the blade. It engages a ramped, tang portion of the knife blade when it is opened. Two omega style springs, one on each liner, give the locking bar it’s inertia to engage the knife tang, and as a result the tang is wedged solidly between a sizable stop pin and the AXIS bar itself.

Best knife I've owned

Super sharp, flick open knife. Everything about it feels quality. The body is some type of nylon-glass polymer and feels like something in between plastic and carbon fiber. It's as sharp as a knife can be and has been extremely useful on a daily basis.

It weighs about as much as I thought it would weigh and is easily every day carry-able, however it is slightly heavier than previous edc knives I've owned. The locking mechanism is ingenious and unique to Benchmade (as far as I know). Works like a dream; it is a simple, elegant solution to locking and unlocking the blade.

The knife comes with a standard pocket clip to where 3/4" of knife is sticking out of your pocket. I asked online (BM) how I could get a deep carry clip and they are sending me one for FREE. Benchmade is a quality company who takes care of their customers. I would recommend the company to anyone. Even if you don't buy this particular knife, you should buy a Benchmade knife. Well worth the cost in quality and customer satisfaction.

The pocket clip is on such that the blade points upward and opens into the side of your pants. This was strange to me at first, however it is better. This prevents the knife from ever opening in your pocket assuming you carry sensibly on the outside edge of your right pocket. Safety first! Pulling the knife is a different motion than I am used to, but also better - it is now in a preparatory state to flick open. Smart!

I like it

I like it. I prefer the "action" of the Ken Onion Kershaw that I carried before but I never got used to the "sandpaper handle on the Kershaw. The quality of the Griptillian shows and I prefer the polished rather than blackened steel. Good handle, good grip, serious knife for serious work. For police duty I prefer the Kershaw but now that I am retired I suppose I can do with a "slower" knife............still I like the sound of the "snap" will get over it I am sure. It ain't pretty but it will get the job done.
