Quality Outdoor Knife.

The Benchmade name stands true with this knife as well as all the others I own. It is the awesome Benchmade quality that you expect, and get from the US company.

The handle:
is thick, like you need for prolonged wood working tasks, i.e. camping/bushcrafting. Some reviews complain about the edges of the handle being too square and "sharp" but I did not find this to be uncomfortable. The handle is sturdy, well made, and beautiful.

The blade:
is razor sharp like you expect and extremely strong. The edge is great for wood working, even for the finer of wood carving tasks when needed. The blade spine is a semi sharp 90° edge which showers great sparks from a good ferrocerium rod. The drop point edge is great to reduce the risk of breaking the tip of the knife blade.

The sheath:
Is not up to the Benchmade standard. They make wonderful knives, but this sheath is a bit substandard to the Benchmade name. It is a beautiful leather sheath with a good ferrocerium rod loop, but it is not comparably strong to complement the knife that will last year's to come. The stitching is very thin line, and seems that it will be easily able to malfunction. Having a good knife is good, but having a strong secure way to secure it is just as important. If the button snap is undone the knife can easily fall out. As well where the button snap strap is located if you are storing your knife on your belt with one hand seems it could be easily cut by the blade, which would ruin the only way to secure your knife in place. I wanted the leather due to the style of the knife, and the older traditions this knife is used for but I will be replacing my sheath in the future.

Over all the knife is a 5 star knife that will be able to be passed down to my son, the sheath get a 3 stars. So that's why the over all is a 4 star review. When you buy a belt knife your way of securing it to your belt IS part of the system, and if it fails the system fails.

Benchmade 162 Bushcrafter Knife

First off this is a serious knife for the bush! It is almost too pretty to use outdoors! It looks like a work of art but it does the job well! It fits well in the hand and the S30V steel is sharp and holds an edge very well. The stainless steel looks so clean and resists stains. The sheath is ok. I use a d ring to attach to my belt and it pivots nicely and stays out of the way when sitting etc.

You can use this blade for everything from cutting food and preparing meals to making feathersticks and battoning wood for the fire. It cleans up well, in fact well enough to use in food preparation if you worry about carbon steel. I put a Light My Fire Swedish fire steel 2.0 Army with 1/8" bungy paracord to secure it to the sheath. A great addition to the sheath. You can use the spine of the bushcrafter to throw some serious sparks on your kindling.

Great sized bushcrafter that is not too large, but very capable!
