The Utvær featurs a strong, full tang construction, ample curly birch handle and 4-inch blade of Sandvik 12C27 steel. The drop point Scandinavian ground blade, leather sheath, and curly birch wood handle characterize Helle’s renowned strength, functionality and beauty.

Maintenance

Helle knives are designed to retain their sharpness as a lifelong outdoors companion. But it is still important to take care of your knife and its sheath.

  • The Handle. Dry the handle with a soft cloth if wet and wax occasionally.
  • The Sheath. The leather needs to be impregnated occasionally with colourless impregnation agent (grease or wax) to keep supple. Dry the sheath carefully in room temperature if it becomes wet
  • The Blade. Wipe the blade with a soft cloth if wet and treat with grease occasionally.

Sharpening
Use a diamond tool or a wet stone for sharpening. Place the knife bevel flat to the sharpening tool and work the entire blade. Work one side until you can feel a slight burr on the opposite side. Switch side and repeat the procedure until you feel the burr on the first side. You have now established an edge.

Remove the burr by stroking the blade gently over the sharpening surface on both sides, as if cutting very thin slices. Keep the bevel flat towards the sharpener and move from side to side until the burr is gone.

The Sandvik steel used in the blade holds the edge for a good amount of time but

The Utvaer is a solid camp knife that is surprising light and arguably one of the most handsome blades you will ever see when you hold it. The Sandvik steel used in the blade holds the edge for a good amount of time but, as with all new blades, you should strop the knife regularly for the first few uses to strength and touch up the edge. The scandi grind is taken down to zero degrees and has no micro-bevel - something I appreciate but if you chop with it or batton with a zero degree ground edge, the edge "could" chip in a spot. Again, strop and strop to help aid the edge until the blade is broken in well enough.
In the end this is a totally awesome bushcraft knife for BUSHCRAFT/CAMP chores. Its not big battoning blade, not a chopper and its lack of a sharp 90 degree spine limits it use in tender making and fire starting.

Solid Full Tang Knife

What else can I say? Its a beautiful full tang knife that is strong and love the ample curly birch handles. I would give 5 stars if the price was half the suggested cost

Holds Up Well!!

Great Knife! Love this knife is full tang and has the pommel on the end that I used it for digging a hole on our camping trip. I used this knife for digging, chopping wood, and stoking the fire all night. It held up wonderfully!
