Traditional Puukko, meets Colombian jungle, meets TOPS Knives

The TOPS Tanimboca Puukko with Tan Canvas Micarta Handles is a result of their team-up with knife designer Goran Mihajlovic. Mihajlovic, originally from Serbia, is known for his knives forged in the heart of Amazon jungle. His preferred knife style is the Puukkos, a knife originally developed in Scandinavia very precise and controlled cutting. The TOPS version of his design mixes traditional elements with classic TOPS’ style. It features a 1095 carbon steel blade paired with tan canvas micarta handle scales. Once you get your hands on one, you’ll know why TOPS was so excited to make it. Pick one up for your pack today!

Puukkos are a style of knife originally developed in Scandinavia. Through the years, they have remained largely unchanged. Characteristically, they are Scandi ground knives with thick, round wooden handles. Most do not have a finger guard, which allows the person using it to get their hand as close to the cutting edge as possible. This gives the user very precise and controlled cutting. Its simplistic design is both useful and intuitive and has definitely withstood the test of time.

Less ideal for big hands

The rearward tapering of the handle leaves less meat to hold on to when giving it a hard grip which led to a hot spot forming at the base of my pinkie. When I started treating the knife as though it were a three fingered handle, it got more comfortable and the hot spot went away. I just had to change the grip style and pressure.

In every other way this is a perfect little belt knife for woods work and bush craft. It's simple and resilient. The blade profile and edge geometry make it a dream to cut with and the sheath is also fantastic and comfortable on the hip. If it had a fatter handle towards the back end, it would be the perfect knife.

A great knife.

This is just an incredible freaking knife. The ergonomics of the micarta scales is amazing and they are grippy. The blade is 1095 carbon steel that is uncoated so you need to keep it oiled. It comes very sharp and and the blade geometry allows this knife to fly through wood. It has a nice quality leather sheath that does a nice job of securing the knife.
The knife and sheath are made in USA and TOPS privides excellent customer service and warranty.
